The Hope Scholarship
Hope Scholarship is the state’s education savings account program that gives parents an opportunity to build an individual learning experience that works best for their child. The scholarship allows K-12 students to receive financial assistance that can be used for tuition, fees and other expenses.
To qualify for the Hope Scholarship Program in the 2022-2023 academic year, a student must be a West Virginia resident and be one of the following:

Eligible for or required to be enrolled in kindergarten

Enrolled full-time in public elementary or secondary school in West Virginia for an entire instructional term of the 2021-2022 academic year

Enrolled full-time and attending a public elementary or secondary school in West Virginia for at least 45 calendar days during the current instructional term at the time of application

Financial Aid is available to both Catholic and non-Catholic students through Diocesan, Parish and School funding.

Assistance will be based on financial need. No more than 50% of the tuition amount after FACTS, may be subsidized for each child applying for assistance.

Kristie Finney
Music Teacher
Ms. Kristie Finney is the band director for students in fourth through twelfth grade at St. Joseph Catholic Schools
Kristie Finney was born and raised in Washington state. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Long Beach, and her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. While in the New York area Ms Finney performed with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the New Jersey Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera Presentation Season Orchestra, and the Harrisburg Symphony. While holding the position of flutist in the Erick Hawkins Dance Company Theatre Orchestra, she toured extensively in the United States and in 1991 participated in a five week Asian tour to Japan, China, and Hong Kong. She moved to Huntington in 1991. Since moving to West Virginia Ms Finney has performed with the West Virginia Symphony, the Ohio Valley Symphony, the River Cities Symphony, and the Seneca Chamber Orchestra. She has been featured a number of times as guest soloist with the Seneca Chamber Orchestra, as well.
Ms Finney has maintained a private flute studio almost continuously since she was in high school, but she began teaching in the classroom in 2000, at Covenant School. In 2006 she began teaching at Our Lady of Fatima and eventually became the Music Director for the Parish. In 2014 Ms Finney began teaching at St Joseph Central Catholic High School. She left her posts at Fatima in October of 2019 and in 2020 began a band program for grades 4 - 8 at St Joseph Catholic School.
Ms Finney has two children. Her daughter, Hannah, recently completed her studies at Mississippi State School of Veterinary Medicine and began working as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Advanced Veterinary Services in the Tri-State area. Her son, Jacob, served in the Marine Corp and is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Marshall University.
One of Ms Finney’s greatest passions in life is bringing the joy of performing music to young people.
